Milling Oak Beams

Milling Oak Beams

This client had four Oak beams replaced with RSJs in a recent house extension and wanted to make use of the beams rather than cut them up for firewood.

Due the size, weight, and narrow side access to the clients house it meant that was it was easier to them processed in the client’s garden. There were two 3M long beams one about 30cm by 30cm, the other 30cm by 15cm. The other beams were 2M long and about 20cm by 20cm, one of these had had two sections taken from it for porch supports.

I used a ladder for the long beams, and these were cut into 8 boards in total. The ladder was too wide for the smaller beams so swapped to my Uni-strut rails, from these beams I cut another 7 boards. All the beams had looked clean and free from nails or screws, although I still found a couple of bits of metal in one of the small beams.

The client was extremely happy with the boards produced and has ideas for a new dining table, office desk, and windowsills.
