Tuin Emma Corner Log Cabin and Base

Tuin Emma Corner Log Cabin and Base

A simple base for a Tuin Emma Corner Log Cabin.

This simple base was a little challenging due to the ground level dropping by 34cm from one corner to the other of the 3.6M square base. To help with levelling and digging out for the base foundation I hired a mini digger that was able to fit down the narrow side access to the property. While digging out the front left corner had what appeared to be many years of pond sediment going down over 50cm before solid ground was found.

Once all dug out shuttering was built and levelled. Concrete was mixed on site and poured to form the foundations. The client had a large pile of hardcore that was used to start filling the inside of the foundations. I laid out the slabs on the top of the two outside edges to check fit. The inside of the base was then backfilled with MOT Type 1 and compacted down. I then cut and fixed slabs to face the two exposed edges and then around the perimeter, as this is a corner cabin three extra slabs were laid for the corner. Once set the hardcode in the middle was brought up to the same level as the slabs.

The log cabin arrived as a large package. All the timber was treated with a wood preserver before building. Tantalised timber barrier beams were laid out, cut to length, checked for fit and squareness before the first logs were laid. The cabin was soon up to roof level, windows came as pre-built units already in their frames. The door frame required building before fixing in place. Eight struts were fixed to a central boss before 8 triangular pre-built panels were fitted to make the roof. PIR Insulation boards were fitted to the roof before the roofing felt was added.

The log cabin was now almost complete, the client was happy to fit the flooring, door trims, and paint.

A very satisfying build.
